  Whitington provides therapeutic foster care to boys and girls from infants to 21 years of age. Children who are emotionally challenged, status offenders, abused and neglected, or handicapped and pregnant adolescents are placed in homes close to their communities.  

Whitington offers therapeutic foster homes in several Northeast Indiana counties, including homes in Fort Wayne. Youth admitted to this program are placed by the Courts.

Whitington licenses homes interested in making a difference in the life of a child. Foster parents attend specialized pre-service training and must continue specialized training of at least 25 hours per calendar year in order to remain on the placement list.

 
The range of services provided to children in our care includes but is not limited to:
   
 
  • Individual and/or Family Therapy
  • Specialized Treatment Groups
  • Individualized Treatment Goals
  • Crisis Information
 
 
                       
  • Whitington’s Foster Care case managers also submit monthly progress reports to the placing agencies
  • Admission Criteria: Birth to age 21, male and female. IQ range open
  • Therapeutic needs are met by foster care case managers including individual and group sessions
  • Sibling groups and pregnant/parenting teen moms are also served
  • Therapeutic foster parents attend monthly training provided by Whitington
  • Licensing includes Institute on Human Services training
  • Foster care case managers proved weekly face-to-face visits, or more frequently if indicated, with child in care and maintains weekly contact with therapeutic foster parent(s)
  • Team approach includes family of origin, therapeutic foster parents, referring agent, and other service providers
  • Most homes are licensed as therapeutic, but we do have specialized homes available
